May 2015 Athlete of the Month – Blair Duke

Well folks we made it. It’s June 1st and there isn’t any snow on the ground, if you haven’t had a reason to dance around in your pajamas to some classic 80’s tunes, now’s your chance. We are gathered here today to honor this past months MVP, and trust me it was no easy task. Everyone has been doing some excellent work in the gym lately and I thank you for it. The spoils for the month of May will go out to Mr. Blair Duke himself! Despite having the wingspan of King Louie from The Jungle Book, Blair has been grinding hard for the past few months and has really stepped up his game. Congrats to you Blair!!

When I think of Blair there is one word that comes to mind; Consistent. No matter what’s happening you can always find him gettin a swell at least 3 times a week here at the palace. Most commonly found at the 7:00pm class on weekdays, but when he’s on that night shift makin bank he’s still coming in working on that fitness at 8:00am. Blairs journey with CrossFit has been extremely inspiring to watch from the very beginning and I’m glad to be a part of it. When it all started I’m not going to lie, I didn’t know if he would continue to keep coming back. He would come in and put in the work, not say too much, and sometimes would have to take a break mid workout to collect himself instead of losing his dinner all over my freshly swept floor. But he kept coming back for more. Blair started off where most people do and kept to the Health & Fitness program for a while. As of this year Blair has moved up to the Performance program and is no longer stopping for a breather mid workout, but usually among the top/fastest finishers for each workout! Another reason why we have chosen Blair for this months MVP is because he takes full advantage of everything we offer because he WANTS to get better. And that’s exactly why we offer everything that we do. On Saturdays he’s basically at the gym all day from the free Yoga class at 10:30, HIIT class at 1:00 and maybe even a WOD somewhere in there too if he’s feeling crazy. He may look intimidating because he’s 7 feet tall and when he gets a weight overhead you have to look past the clouds, but if you need some advice on anything mechanic related, or just wanna chat about the weekend – he’s your guy. Keep on keepin’ on Blair.

Why CrossFit?
Coming from a small town with very little athletic opportunities I was excited to try something new. CrossFit delivered more than I had expected/wanted. CFV has turned me into the best athlete I have ever been while constantly improving. The villains community always helps me get the most out of my workout.
One Word That Best Describes You: Determined.
